We regret to inform you that the Nederlands Dans Theater I (NDT) will not be performing as part of the 2008-2009 Dance at the Music Center season as originally announced. The company had been scheduled to perform a repertory program on June 26, 27 and 28 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Due to the unfortunate decline in both the Music Center’s investment revenue and donor giving as well as lower than anticipated ticket sales for our past two dance engagements, we were forced to consider cost reduction strategies ---among them the possibility of program-related cuts during the 2008-2009 fiscal year.
After weighing options and consequences available to us over the past weeks, we have made the decision to cancel this engagement. This decision is made solely on the basis of our desire to manage our resources in the most prudent fashion given current economic circumstances. Our cancellation of NDT comes with much regret for the loss of their formidable artistic profile within our season. The engagement will not be replaced.
As disappointed as we are with this cancellation, we are committed to presenting the remainder of the season as announced, including the return of two of the world's most celebrated American companies, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and American Ballet Theatre. We are also looking forward to Ballet Hispanico, in their Music Center debut at the Ahmanson Theatre in June.
We apologize for any inconvenience this cancellation may cause and thank you for your understanding and support of Dance at the Music Center.
